It's within the context of social justice, and that kind of teaching-I'm not sure it currently happens. I think that we do have a window of opportunity with the L.C.A. requirements and all of that, but I am not sure that the cadre of individuals who (teach) are knowledgeable and experienced enough to teach cultural competence in the context of social justice. The kind of introspection that you describe, although necessary and critical, how could it have done anything? Those professors in the school of medicine and the residency programs are the ones who are supposed to teach the students and the residents-how capable are they in terms of doing that? So I think that the challenge that we have ahead of us is a huge one. I think that we have to move beyond the touchy feely cultural competence to one that looks at it in the context of justice.
