Gems From The Field
Over the last ten years, the Family Planning Management Development (FPMD) project has been working with staff of their client organizations to strengthen the management of health and family planning programs and organizations around the world. Through our experiences, we have created and adapted management tools and processes to aid us in our work. We call these various tools, methods, and approaches "gems" because they are small and potentially very valuable to those who acquire them. We hope to provide more and more of these gems as they are developed. These tools include: We are making these tools, processes, and guidelines available to a wider audience so that they can be used or adapted for initiatives in other settings. For example:
Facilitators planning an organizational retreat could try out a method for monitoring and measuring progress during the retreat.

Clinic managers beginning a program of community based distribution can consult the questionnaires included in our GEMS.

Managers looking to reduce the number of missed appointments at the service delivery point can consult our tool for reducing the "no-show" rate.
